1981.

A new film, with a new hero and heroine. The hero, a star-son launched by his famous star father. The heroine, a star sister. When the hero turns his face towards the audience for the first time, a huge sigh ripples through the audience, representing the collective unrequited adoration of the female audience. Huge lines form outside the theatres for weeks and young girls queue up repeatedly to see the film again and again.

The film, Love Story. The hero, Kumar Gaurav. The heroine, Vijayeta Pandit.

2000.

A new film with a new hero and heroine. The hero, a star-son launched by his famous star father. The heroine, a society star-daughter. At the moment of the hero's entry, a loud birdcall of female squeals rips through the audience, cutting a swathe through the expectant air. The hero becomes the newest and hottest heartthrob.

The film, Kaho Na Pyaar Hai. The actor, Hrithik Roshan. The heroine, Ameesha Patel.

The resemblance is not just in the events. Ameesha shows a striking resemblance to Vijayeta. Hrithik is in the same lovable hero mold as Kumar was at the time. Both movies are violent love stories with reasonably good music.

We all know what happened to Kumar Gaurav and Vijayeta Pandit.

I wish Hrithik and Ameesha all the best.

Oh, and as far as the movie is concerned...it is like any other Bollywood film, just better made and with a fresher look. Replace the hero and heroine with any other actor-actress combination and the film would have most probably flopped.
